Our History

Since 1896 the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library has been serving the citizens Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding area. By the early 1960’s the library had outgrown its original Carnegie library and a new building was built at the current location on East Street. Currently the library has more than 27,000 registered patrons and the three branches have over 185,000 items in their collections and there is an annual circulation of that exceeds one half million.
