Volunteers

The Volunteer Program at the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library offers a variety of opportunities for individuals to participate in a valuable service to the community.  We welcome applications for all interested individuals who are 14 years of age or older. Students are welcome to apply.

Review the positions listed below to see if there is something for you. Please complete a Volunteer Application Form and drop it off or mail it to any of our three locations.

Student Community Service Hours  (Must be 14 years of age or older)

Students can volunteer at the library to perform their community service hours required for high school graduation.  A variety of tasks and jobs are available.  Contact your nearest library to inquire.  To read more ...

Bestseller Café (Must be 16 years of age or older)

The Bestseller Café offers drinks and snacks to members of the public and customers of the Library.  Proceeds from sales are used towards library services.  Café volunteers are expected to do a three hour shift each week.  Days, evenings and weekend shifts are available.  A six month commitment is preferred.  Contact Helena at (705)759-5235 for information.

Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Library are a dedicated group of volunteers who support the library by raising funds for the library and by promoting the library in the community.  Volunteers are always needed to help operate the Friends of the Library Bookstore and to assist with book sales in the community. Visiting Library Service (Must be at least 16 years of age; a driver’s license and use of a car with valid insurance is required)

Visiting Library Service volunteers deliver of library materials to library customers who are not able to visit the library in person due to age, illness or physical disability.  Volunteers also drop off books to health care institutions and seniors residences.  If you would like to be a valuable link in this service and can give about two hours of your time every 3 weeks, please contact us.

Branch Courier Service (Must be 16 years of age; a driver’s license and use of a car with valid insurance is required)

The Branch Courier Service transports library books and supplies between the library’s three branches.  This position requires an individual with the ability to do some lifting and who can make a commitment of three hours per week.

To apply for any of the volunteer positions listed above pick up a Volunteer application form from any of the service desks at the library or print a copy  and return it to the library.

All volunteer applicants at the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library are screened to ensure an appropriate match is made between the volunteer and the position applied for.
